Apple-Beatles Music settlement Could Be Huge
First came the Beatles and their Apple Corps. record label. Then came Apple Computers and a lot of legal fighting began over the name. The settlement in 1991 gave the usage of "Apple" to Apple Computer as long as it did not go into the music business.
Uh oh....
With the success of the iPod and the iTunes online music store, Apple Computer is in the music business in a big way. According to Arstechnica, "Word is circulating within the legal community that the proposed out-of-court settlement would be enormous: One lawyer told Daily Variety, 'People are expecting this to be the biggest settlement anywhere in legal history, outside of a class action suit. The numbers could be mind boggling.'" Stay tuned...
