Microsoft to Launch New Smart Watches
Microsoft's dream of a Dick Tracy communicator is finally closer after a delay of the Smart Watch product line. While the watches can display stock quotes and weather, as well as your daily appointments, I can't help but wonder why we are looking at a faded monochrome product just as bright color displays are taking over PDAs, cellphones and even Blackberry two-way pagers.

Kodak to Stop Selling Film Camera in the US
Call this a major Kodak Moment, but it looks like the film giant is giving up film-based cameras and truly going digital. After disappointing sales in its film-based Advantix line of camera, Kodak finally pulled the plug on developing new film cameras and will simply manufactur film and photo paper and then new digital products.

Mobile Ring Tone Sales Hit $3.5 Billion
Ring a Ding Ding Dept: Looks like ringtones are big business. At roughly 10 percent of the entire music market, even the cheesy Charlie's Angel's theme I paid $1.00 for is kicking some industry ass.

Pioneer Debuts Video Turntable
According to Reuters: "Pioneer Corp introduced a digital video turntable that lets night club disc jockeys spin, scratch, loop and queue music videos just like they do with audio tracks. The upcoming debut at CES is another example of the move by Pioneer, long known for its audio, into the video world." Fa Shizzle!

Virtual Cash Exchange Goes Live
BBC News: Online games now have their own foreign exchange that lets players buy and sell different virtual currencies just like in the real world. The Gaming Open Market allows players who control characters in games such as Star Wars Galaxies, The Sims Online and Ultima, to buy and sell the currencies used in the different game worlds. Players can convert cash reserves in one game into a different currency in another world or sell their virtual money for US dollars.

Verizon Planning Wireless Broadband Network
According to USA Today: "Broadband on the go will get a lot closer to reality Thursday when the USA's No. 1 phone and wireless carrier details plans to build the first national wireless network that's truly broadband." Can't come soon enough in our book - dial up stinks and when you have a WiFi notebook, nothing is beter than sniffing out a network.

Pranksters Jam Burger King Drive Through Speaker
Police believe teenage pranksters are hacking into the wireless frequency of a US Burger King drive-through speaker to tell potential customers they are too fat for fast food. The pranksters told one customer who had just placed an order: "You don't need a couple of Whoppers. You are too fat. Pull ahead."

Scooter Clone takes on the Segway
According to BBC World news "A US company has come up with an imitation of the invention that was supposed to revolutionise transport. The Rad2Go Q electric scooter looks like a Segway, but has four wheels and costs a quarter of the price."
Of course, the Segway was perhaps the most-hyped product of the boom years and sales to this day remain flat. Meanwhile tales abound on cities that ban them from sidewalks, a hit and run involving a little girl, and even Segway crime rings. Not sure how cutting the price of a competing product will jump start this category, but as fewer people walk anywhere, maybe one day a hefty $499 scooter for sale at WalMart may do the trick.

Magnetic Mobile Headset
According to BBC News Online, "A mobile phone headset based on magnetic technology has been developed by a US company. Aura Communications says its wireless headset is cheaper and lasts longer than ones based on radio frequency technology such as Bluetooth." Alice and Bill have always despised Bluetooth for too many reasons to list here, but then again, isn't there something scary about about having a huge magntic field aroound you, in addition to your cell phone's radiation, all in the name of not using a cord?
